In a recent appearance on the Sean Hannity Show, conservative historian and scholar Victor Davis Hanson critiqued the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). Hanson argued that figures like Mamdani, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and others have immigrated to the United States from unsuccessful nations and appear to want to replicate those failures here.
He highlighted the irony of the movement’s leadership being exceptionally wealthy, mentioning influencers like Hasan Piker, who owns a million-dollar home and drives a Porsche.

VICTOR DAVIS HANSON, HOOVER INSTITUTION SENIOR FELLOW: This phenomenon is top-down, Sean. About 85 percent of Democratic Socialists identify as white, and most hold college degrees. They are frustrated that their intelligence is not acknowledged or valued in the expensive urban areas they reside in.
Yet, they are affluent. Mamdani, for instance, is an only child from a privileged background, part of Uganda’s top one percent, with a family compound on Lake Victoria.
Ro Khanna is now engaging with socialist ideas. His wife drives a $200,000 Range Rover, and there are golf courses named after their kids. The list goes on.
Hasan Piker purchased a nearly $3 million home in West Hollywood and drives a Porsche.
This movement is not driven by the working class or minorities but by affluent individuals and second or first-generation immigrants like Chevalier, Mamdani, Ilhan Omar, and Rashida Tlaib, who fled unsuccessful states yet want to recreate those disasters here.
It’s illogical, but they avoid labeling themselves as socialists or communists because it could be politically damaging. However, the encouragement comes from non-politicians.
Hasan Piker, you must be bold and declare you’re a communist. Try that outside New York, Denver, or Cambridge, Mass., and see how it goes. I doubt it will be successful.
