A Southern California police department, still dealing with the aftermath of a tumultuous Fourth of July gathering, issued a strong warning on Saturday. They are investigating another potential unauthorized event that may occur this weekend.

Newport Beach police released a direct warning on Saturday, stating that officers are looking into another potentially illegal event being promoted for the upcoming weekend.

“We’ve seen the post,” the department announced on social media.

“The event is under active investigation, and we are working with our regional partners to identify those involved in organizing or promoting any unlawful activity,” police stated.

Authorities announced that additional officers will be stationed around the city in anticipation of another possible outbreak of holiday disorder.

Police urged visitors to show respect for the community, warning of potential repercussions.

ā€œAnyone who organizes, promotes, or participates in criminal activity should expect immediate enforcement action,ā€ Newport Beach Police declared, whether it involves vandalism or unlawful assembly.

ā€œOur priority is to protect the community, maintain public safety, and respond quickly to any criminal activity.ā€

The department also emphasized that young troublemakers will not be exempt from consequences, noting that minors can still face “serious” repercussions and liability for their actions.

This investigation follows videos from the July 4 gathering in Newport Beach—one of Southern California’s wealthiest coastal areas—circulating online, sparking outrage and concern among residents.

Over 400 individuals were arrested as the event spiraled into chaos. Authorities later cited a social media-driven “TikTok Takeover” as a possible trigger. Reports emerged of large crowds engaging in fights and launching illegal fireworks.

Youths and minors comprised most of those detained, and police disclosed that the vast majority of those apprehended were from outside Newport Beach, including areas like Arizona and other parts of California.

Officials reported that the situation quickly became hazardous, with individuals blocking roads, hindering emergency vehicles, and hurling mortars, fireworks, and other objects at officers. At least one officer sustained injuries.

Videos appear to show individuals carrying broken street signs and looting a nearby Pavilions grocery store on West Balboa Boulevard, while officers on horseback attempted to control the crowd on the beach.

Mayor Lauren Kleiman noted that the city has historically seen an influx of young visitors during the Fourth of July weekend, but believes social media has exacerbated the situation.

“In recent years, we’ve definitely observed an increase, particularly among kids from out of state. It’s not unusual, but I think that social media has significantly altered the dynamics,” he stated.
