Simone Biles, the seven-time Olympic medalist, has updated her fans following a health scare in June. On Thursday, she shared an Instagram Story featuring herself in surgical attire alongside her husband, Indianapolis Colts safety Jonathan Owens. In the post, Biles affectionately noted, âHis birthday but he takes me to get my procedure.â The photo, dated July 22, suggests the procedure had already been completed. Biles, 29, was seen in a hospital gown and hair net.
Simone Biles June Health Scare
This update is Bilesâ first since over a month ago, when she revealed a near-death experience on June 15. At that time, Biles expressed, âAlmost dying wasnât on my bingo card earlier this week,â highlighting the gravity of the situation. She described it as possibly âthe scariest experience of her life.â
The Instagram photo showed Bilesâ wrist adorned with several hospital bands and a medical dressing, likely covering an IV site, but their exact significance was not explained. Following the incident, Biles was placed on bed rest. Although she has not disclosed the details of her condition or treatment, she mentioned plans to share more information with the public eventually.
Since the initial scare, Biles has kept a low profile but did make a public appearance at the 2026 ESPY Awards in New York City and has recently returned from a trip to the Dominican Republic.
Whatâs Next For Simone Biles
Having taken a break from gymnastics for two years since the Paris Olympic Games, Bilesâ health update coincides with notable comeback announcements in the sport.
Her teammate, 2020 Olympic all-around champion Suni Lee, revealed her return to competition in mid-July, joining 2024 Olympic teammates Jade Carey and Hezly Rivera in their comebacks.
Additionally, former elite gymnast and NCAA standout Katelyn Ohashi has returned to the American and U.S. Classic competitions after a 13-year hiatus. At 29, after undergoing breast augmentation surgery in 2025, there is speculation about Bilesâ future in competitive gymnastics.
However, Biles has stated she remains undecided about pursuing a spot on her fourth consecutive Olympic team. For now, her fans continue to offer their support and well wishes.
