The global memory shortage hits the MacBook Air

The worldwide shortage of memory chips is impacting the supply of Apple’s top-selling MacBook, as reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

Gurman noted that the scarcity has already impacted some of Apple’s less mainstream products, like the Mac mini and Mac Studio, due to the high demand from AI-driven companies. Now, it appears that the MacBook Air is also facing supply issues, with retailers indicating that availability is more limited than in the past.

Currently, customers looking to purchase a MacBook Air from Apple’s website will experience delays, with deliveries pushed to the latter part of August or, for some models, even September.

To combat this issue, Gurman states that Apple is increasing prices and procuring memory supplies from Chinese vendors. Additionally, the company postponed its most recent back-to-school promotion, initially scheduled for June. This time, their marketing efforts are emphasizing the base model of the MacBook Pro, accompanied by a cautionary note that the “MacBook Air is subject to availability.”
