While reading might not be as popular as it once was, it remains a strong influence for Stine Goya. The designer crafted her spring 2027 collection with inspiration from Florian Illies’ book, ye. Goya explained, “It was about how all the European artists and thinkers and scientists at that moment were living their life as if there was no tomorrow. There was really this sense of creativity and how they were working together that was really inspiring to me; there was something that felt so parallel to the time that we live in today.”
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is causing gradual changes in society. In contrast, a century ago, new artistic movements often sparked immediate reactions. Goya highlighted the International Exhibition of Modern Art at the Armory in New York, where avant-garde styles like Cubism were introduced to the American public. Marcel Duchamp’s painting Nude Descending a Staircase notably provoked critics. Similarly, in Paris, Vaslav Nijinsky’s sensuous performance in the Ballets Russes’ Afternoon of a Faun created a stir. Goya set the tone for her show by playing Igor Stravinsky’s music from that ballet and featuring an inline skater.
For the brand’s runway return after a two-year hiatus, every guest was ensured a front-row experience with seating arranged in concentric circles, and models walked in circular paths, akin to a clock, noted Thomas Herz, the company CEO and Goya’s partner. Despite the brand’s previous stagnation, the spiraling choreography symbolized Goya’s break from routine and her forward progress.
A cooler aesthetic has replaced the brand’s former cutesiness, exemplified by ribbon-laced Dr Martens. While floral designs were still prominent, standout prints featured a color palette reminiscent of Gianni Versace and incorporated rococo cartouches. Vivid colors adorned pieces densely covered in beads, such as the cardigan jacket Goya wore for her bow. Strass bras with loose, streamer-like back laces offer a dazzling touch to any outfit, suitable for wearing alone or layered. Although not groundbreaking, these elements signify a shift toward a more glamorous direction, demonstrating that elegance can harmonize with the softer prettiness for which Goya is known.
