In November 2014, reports surfaced of a backstage disagreement between O’Donnell and Goldberg regarding coverage of allegations against Bill Cosby and the unrest in Ferguson, Missouri. This dispute reportedly left Perez visibly upset.
According to an insider speaking to the Daily News, “There’s significant frustration and issues.” The source added, “Whoopi was reluctant to discuss Cosby and Ferguson, whereas Rosie (O’Donnell) felt it was necessary – how could you avoid it?”
The insider continued, “These discussions are uncomfortable for everyone, but as hosts of The View, it’s their responsibility to address potentially tense topics.”
It was also reported by a source with knowledge of the situation that O’Donnell allegedly “yelled at everyone.”
A staff member noted, “She initially clashed with Whoopi and subsequently with the producers.”
Another The View team member commented, “These are two intelligent women who believe in the importance of discussing meaningful topics openly.”
Approximately five months into her return to The View, the Celebrity Detox author announced her departure from the show to prioritize her family.
A network spokesperson stated, “Rosie is an incredibly talented star, bringing ideas, enthusiasm, and passion to the show every day. When she expressed her wish to leave The View, we understood her decision to prioritize her well-being and family.”
The spokesperson added, “We’re pleased that she remains part of the ABC family with upcoming guest appearances on The Fosters. We anticipate her returning to The View with her distinctive perspective and updates on her projects and family life.”
