ITN Productions is set to release a one-hour documentary titled “Nigel Farage: Where Does the Money Come From?” focusing on the financial dealings of the Reform U.K. leader. This documentary will air on 5, a channel under the Paramount Skydance Corporation, on August 22.

The documentary’s release comes as Farage’s finances face increased scrutiny, linked to an ongoing investigation by the Parliamentary Standards Commissioner. This investigation involves gifts received by Farage and the Clacton by-election on August 13, which was initiated by his resignation and subsequent re-election campaign.

The film will delve into the sources of Farage’s alleged £2 million ($2.7 million) in outside income since 2024, as reported by ITN. This includes revenue from broadcasting, public speaking, and property interests. It will also feature expert analysis of financial contributions and gifts connected to two cryptocurrency financiers, amid ongoing parliamentary and media scrutiny of Farage’s financial affairs.

Jeremy Daldry, deputy head of U.K. factual at ITN Productions, highlighted the significant potential impact of Farage’s political influence on the nation, suggesting that the current investigation provides a timely opportunity to explore this story.

“Topical, reactive documentaries are part of our DNA here at 5, and the questions around Farage’s finances really matter to our viewers,” said Federico Ruiz, commissioning editor at 5. “We dig deep into the publicly available information to examine the facts.”

On July 7, Farage announced his intention to resign from his Clacton seat and seek re-election, framing the election as an opportunity for his constituents to assess him instead of “the establishment.” His resignation, finalized the next day, temporarily halted the standards commissioner’s inquiry into an undeclared £5 million ($6.7 million) gift from Thailand-based crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne. With major political parties boycotting the election, Farage’s most notable opponent was Count Binface, a novelty candidate in a dustbin costume, among a record 34 candidates.

On August 13, Farage secured victory with 22,239 votes against Binface’s 9,455, allowing the standards investigation to resume immediately. Such investigations can only proceed while the subject holds a Commons seat. If found in breach of the MPs’ code of conduct, minor infractions are generally resolved with an apology, while serious breaches may be referred to the Committee on Standards for potential sanctions, including suspension or expulsion from the Commons. A suspension of 10 days or more could trigger a recall petition, potentially leading to another by-election. Farage has the right to appeal any findings to the Independent Expert Panel, a body without sitting MPs.

Other senior figures in Reform U.K. are also under scrutiny. Deputy leader Richard Tice is being investigated for allegedly failing to declare a paid trip when speaking in a Commons debate. Additionally, Robert Jenrick, who joined Reform U.K. earlier this year, has been referred to the standards commissioner by the Conservatives, while separate investigations by the Electoral Commission and police are examining donations linked to his 2024 Conservative leadership campaign.

ITN Productions, known for producing high-quality documentaries in response to major global events, is behind this documentary. Recent titles from 5 include “Air India Disaster: The Unanswered Questions” and “The Beckhams’ Billions: How Did They Get So Rich?” Jeremy Daldry serves as executive producer of the Farage documentary, with Katie Harris and Chris Price-Morgan as producer/directors. Rusen Boztas is the production manager, and Laura Straker is the production coordinator. Post-production was completed internally at ITN Post.
