Wayne Rooney, a Manchester United icon, believes the team will secure fourth place in the Premier League this season. The 20-time English league champions are preparing for the new campaign after achieving a third-place finish previously.
Manchester United initially faced difficulties under Ruben Amorim last season, but following his dismissal in January, the team made a strong recovery under Michael Carrick. They finished the season just seven points behind Manchester City, earning a spot in the Champions League.
Thanks for the submission!
Carrick’s efforts were recognized with a permanent managerial position. During the summer, Manchester United actively prepared for the new season by strengthening their squad. They added Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans to their midfield and signed Karl Darlow as a backup goalkeeper on a free transfer.
Despite these additions, Carrick has called for further signings at Old Trafford before the transfer window closes. With the first Premier League game against Hull City approaching, Rooney shared his thoughts on the upcoming season.
On The Overlap’s new ‘Stick to United’ show, Rooney expressed that finishing in the top four will be challenging. He dismissed a title challenge as ‘unrealistic’ and predicted Arsenal would dominate the league.
According to Rooney, Manchester United should focus on maintaining their Champions League position. He predicted the team would finish fourth:
“I would take top-four. I think maybe fourth, I still think need to get two or three more players in.
“You’re looking at Arsenal and Man City – Chelsea will be a lot better this season, Tottenham will be better. You’ve got Liverpool in there as well. So it’s going to be tough.
“Arsenal have the potential to run away with it, but behind them, we could see a lot of changes. I think Man United will finish fourth.
“Michael Carrick did fantastic to get Man United back into the Champions League. So now the club have to stay there.
“I think it’s unrealistic to think they’re going to win the Premier League this year, I don’t think they will.”
Manchester United will face Ipswich Town, another newly-promoted team, after their match against Hull City. They are also set to host Manchester City in a major derby during gameweek four.
Manchester United’s Stance on Galatasaray’s Offer to Double Bruno Fernandes’ Wages: Reports
According to the BBC, Manchester United has decided to reject any attempts to entice Bruno Fernandes away from Old Trafford this summer. The club captain had a standout season, becoming the only player to record 21 assists in a single Premier League campaign.
Fernandes is in the final 12 months of his contract with the club having the option to extend it for an additional year. The lack of an extension agreement reportedly led Galatasaray to make an offer to double his wages. Nonetheless, Manchester United has made it clear that their captain is not for sale at any price.
