David Krumholtz, known for his role as Kor-El in this year’s “Supergirl” and appearances in “Oppenheimer” and “The Studio,” announced on Threads Monday his intention to step away from acting and embrace a “new life.”

Shortly after, he removed posts expressing his frustration with securing roles in Hollywood, sparking speculation among fans about whether he is genuinely ready to leave behind his SAG/AFTRA membership.

In a post, Krumholtz, also known for “Addams Family Values,” shared, “I kinda sorta put my acting career on hold the other day. It’s been something I’ve been petrified to do for years. Specifically, the fear was that I’d go broke and not be able to handle being out of the game.”

He mentioned sending a “definitive email” to pause his career, describing the experience as a “huge wave of relief.” Despite uncertainty about future income, he felt as though a significant burden had been lifted, writing, “Frustrated, fed up, fried.”

This isn’t the first time Krumholtz has considered leaving the industry. Seth Rogen recounted on the “Diary of a CEO” podcast that Krumholtz once contemplated moving to Riverside to sell BMWs.

Krumholtz elaborated in his post, expressing that continuing to audition felt like fighting for roles that exploited his talents for diminishing returns. He emphasized that “exploitative art isn’t art” and advocated for fair compensation for artists whose work contributes to their employers’ profits, reminiscing about a time when studios were akin to “mom & pop store entities.”

Representatives for Krumholtz did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Krumholtz has an extensive career with over 100 film and TV credits, including roles in “10 Things I Hate About You,” “Freaks and Geeks,” “ER,” “The Trouble with Normal,” “The Santa Clause 2,” “Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle,” “Ray,” “Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny,” “Superbad,” “Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story,” “Numb3rs,” “Raising Hope,” “Childrens Hospital,” “This Is the End,” “Key and Peele,” “The League,” “The Good Wife,” “The Deuce,” “Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere,” “Forelock” and “The Rookie.”
