Jessica Tarlov, a liberal commentator on FOX News, recently expressed a desire for Donald Trump to have won the 2020 election.
Predictably, many Trump supporters might counter her statement with the belief that he did win.
It seems Jessica’s intention was to convey that she would have preferred Trump to be declared the winner in 2020, serving his term, and thus no longer being a current political figure. Cue the world’s tiniest violin.

Jessica Tarlov, a contributor for Fox News, expressed her wish that Donald Trump had secured victory in the 2020 presidential election, suggesting that it would mean “we were done” with him by now.
Tarlov, who is a political strategist for the Democratic Party and a rotating cohost on The Five, shared these thoughts during an interview with The New Yorker. She remarked that Trump’s absence from office only strengthened him, likening his resurgence to that of Disney’s villain Ursula.
“Reflecting on the 2020 debates about why Donald Trump needed to be out of office and what Joe Biden could offer as a stable leadership, I now think that without the pandemic, Trump might have been re-elected, and I wish that outcome had occurred. We would be done with him now,” Tarlov stated.
She further elaborated, “Like Ursula, he became more powerful during those years. He built a network of advisors who grasped the challenges ahead. Figures like Russ Vought and Stephen Miller were not as influential during his first term, and initiatives like Project 2025 were nonexistent then.”
Tarlov voiced her frustration over the fact that these four years allowed them to significantly impact the country while the Democrats have struggled to encapsulate their vision for the future into simple, compelling slogans.
David Remnick, the host, questioned why this is the case, asking, “Is it due to being too decorous? Too mild?”
Tarlov responded, “I’m not sure. Having a Ph.D, I understand the appeal of crafting comprehensive policy papers or analyzing past events in detail. However, I crave straightforward messaging. Where are the succinct catchphrases like ‘no tax on tips’? Despite absorbing various insights, we, as liberals, have yet to produce a compelling narrative based on our ideas and merits, rather than just opposing the other side.”
