ABC News is introducing some new talent to its weekend morning lineup.
Rachel Scott, who serves as the senior political correspondent for the Disney news division, will begin co-anchoring the Saturday editions of “Good Morning America” starting September 12. Rhiannon Ally, known for her work on overnight programs, will take on the role of co-anchor on Sundays. Scott will be joined by Whit Johnson, while Ally will partner with Gio Benitez.
Leslie Lopez will join both teams as the new weekend meteorologist for “GMA.”
“We know weekend mornings are precious to our audience, and we could not be more excited to have Whit, Rachel, Gio and Rhiannon as our new weekend team, along with Leslie, to help our viewers make the most of their Saturdays and Sundays,” stated Simone Swink, senior executive producer of ABC News’ broader “GMA” franchise. She also mentioned that these anchors might appear on weekday broadcasts of the show as well.
Scott, who began her journey at ABC News in 2016 as a production associate, plays a vital role at ABC News. She will maintain her position as the senior political correspondent, reporting on the White House, Capitol Hill, and more from Washington, D.C., while co-anchoring “GMA” on Saturdays from New York.
Ally became part of ABC News in 2021 and has recently served as co-anchor of “World News Now” and “Good Morning America First Look.” Before joining ABC News, she worked at KSHB in Kansas City, Missouri, WFOR in Miami, and WCBS in New York.
Lopez joined ABC News last April from KABC, where she was the morning meteorologist, delivering weekday weather reports during the early morning newscasts in Los Angeles.
The four weekend co-anchors will also rotate hosting duties for “ABC News Live Weekend” on weekend mornings, starting at 10 a.m. Eastern on ABC News’ streaming platforms, including Disney+, Hulu, and the ABC News app.
