Chris Hansen criticized the film Primetime as a “completely made-up work of fiction,” questioning why the filmmakers chose not to consult him. “They don’t care about the real story,” he remarked, adding that the true events were dramatic enough.

Hansen stated that A24, the production company behind the film, never contacted him. “I have no issue with Robert Pattinson. I think he’s a great actor and a nice guy, and he has been very gracious in his comments about me. But they put him in a difficult position. He’s going to be asked, ‘Did you actually meet with Chris Hansen?’ And he has to explain why, as an actor portraying me, they never reached out even to have a discussion…”

Hansen suggested that the studio and director deliberately avoided the truth, opting instead to create their own narrative. “They had a notion of the film they wanted to create, and they wanted to benefit from the use of my name,” he alleged. The production company reportedly claimed the film was only “loosely based” on Hansen’s work, which they used as justification for not consulting him.

Hansen has not seen Primetime because A24 required him to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) as standard procedure, which he found overly restrictive. “I’d love to see it. I’m happy to agree not to give away the plotline or anything like that, but I don’t think I need to sign an NDA,” he explained.
