Got iPhone 14? Its Safety Features Are Getting Downgraded Soon

If you were one of the many individuals who purchased a new iPhone in 2022, you may have noticed a recent change in the functionality of your device, especially in emergency situations. The two-year free trial of Apple’s Emergency SOS Satellite feature, which was introduced with the iPhone 14 series, has officially expired.

This groundbreaking technology, powered by a partnership with Globalstar, allowed users to connect with emergency services or share their location via the Find My app in areas without cellular or WiFi coverage. When the iPhone 14 series was launched, Apple offered a free two-year trial of the Emergency SOS Satellite feature, but that period has now ended.

Fortunately, Apple has extended the free use of the feature until at least November 2025, giving users some additional time before fees are introduced. However, the long-term cost of the service remains unknown as Apple has not disclosed how much it will cost after the extension ends.

For now, iPhone 14 series owners can continue to rely on the Emergency SOS Satellite feature without incurring any immediate costs. It is important to note that while the service is currently free, users may need to make a decision about paying for ongoing access if Apple decides to introduce pricing after 2025.

Looking ahead, Apple is expected to release the iPhone SE 4 in early 2025 and the iPhone 17 series in September of the same year. These upcoming releases will bring new features and improvements to Apple’s lineup of smartphones, providing users with even more options to choose from. As we wait for these new devices to hit the market, it’s essential to stay informed about any changes to the Emergency SOS Satellite feature and be prepared for any potential costs that may be introduced in the future.
