Man Arrested in Alabama for Attempted Murder in Chicago Shooting
A man wanted for attempted murder for allegedly shooting a man outside an Austin convenience store in August is now in custody after being stopped by police for a minor traffic violation in Alabama.
Glenn Russell, 36, was extradited to Chicago to face charges in the shooting that took place outside In & Out Drive Thru Food Mart on August 5.
Chicago police responded to multiple ShotSpotter alerts at the food mart around 10 o’clock in the morning. They found a 22-year-old man lying on the pavement next to his 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix, with multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim reported that he was entering the store when he got into an argument with a stranger who then shot at him. The victim sustained injuries to his side and foot, and his car was also damaged by bullets.
Video footage from the store and CPD surveillance cameras showed the gunman circling the area in a car before the shooting. The suspect’s vehicle was located and impounded by CPD later that day.
The victim identified Glenn Russell as the gunman a week after the shooting. Chicago police attempted to locate Russell in the Chicagoland area but later discovered that he had left the state.
An extradition warrant was secured for Russell on October 11, and he was arrested by police in Alabama during a traffic stop on October 30. Russell is currently in custody awaiting a detention hearing.
