In a bid to attract travelers seeking premium accommodations, Frontier Airlines will introduce first-class seating starting in 2025. This move is part of a growing trend among low-fare carriers to offer more options to cater to a wider range of passengers.

The Denver-based airline unveiled this change on Tuesday, describing it as the company’s “next evolution.” Among the new features is complimentary seat upgrades to Frontier’s premium seating for members of the Elite loyalty program.

Frontier Airlines CEO Barry Biffle stated, “We’ve listened to customers, and they want more – more premium options, like first-class seating, accessible seat upgrades, increased free travel for their companions, and the ability to use miles for more than just airfare.”

The introduction of first-class seating is scheduled for late 2025.

Another enhancement includes unlimited free travel for companions of Platinum and Diamond Elite members, set to commence in mid-2025. Additionally, Frontier miles can now be redeemed for baggage and seating upgrades, with the Elite level determined by a member’s accumulated miles.

According to the Associated Press, budget airlines are facing challenges as larger carriers are meeting the demands for more luxurious options while also targeting budget-conscious travelers. This shift has prompted low-cost airlines to refocus their efforts on customers seeking premium features.

Earlier this year, Frontier Airlines eliminated change fees on select tickets and introduced four fare classes: basic, economy, premium, and business. Passengers in the “basic” class still pay extra for services like carry-on bags, seat selection, and reservation changes or cancellations.

The airline also launched UpFront Plus seating, offering guaranteed empty middle seats and extra legroom at the front of the aircraft.

Frontier Airlines recorded a total of 818,725 passengers at Denver International Airport in October, marking a 9.6% increase from the same period in 2023.
