Bill Maher recently discussed the possibility of leaving his show “Real Time” if Donald Trump were to return to his old job as president. In a conversation with actor and activist Jane Fonda on his “Club Random” podcast, Maher expressed his exhaustion at the thought of covering Trump’s administration for another four years. He mentioned that he had already covered Trump extensively, from calling him a con man to predicting his behavior during the election.

Fonda interjected, asking why Trump seemed more hostile towards Jimmy Kimmel than Maher. Maher responded by noting that Trump frequently tweets about him, calling him a “Low ratings loser” whenever he watches his show. Despite the ongoing antagonism, Maher admitted that the constant focus on Trump was becoming tiresome.

Trump had previously attacked Maher in a post on his Truth Social platform, criticizing the fake laughter on Maher’s show. Despite the potential for further clashes with Trump, Maher is contractually obligated to host “Real Time” until 2026. The show was renewed for two more seasons by Warner Bros. Discovery and HBO in March, with Maher expressing his excitement for continuing in his “dream job” on the network.

Having hosted “Real Time” since 2003 and produced numerous comedy specials for HBO, Maher’s future on the network seems secure. While the prospect of Trump’s return may be daunting, Maher remains committed to his show and the platform it provides for political commentary and satire.
