Gugu Mbatha-Raw, known for her role in “Surface,” is set to star in the upcoming Sky Original thriller series “Inheritance.” Joining her are Jonny Lee Miller, Sheldon Shepherd, and Bel Powley in this five-part limited event series created by Karla Crome. The story is set in Bristol, U.K. and Jamaica, tackling the enduring legacy of colonialism.
Mbatha-Raw plays Claudia, a young bi-racial lawyer who travels to Jamaica to challenge an inheritance claim against a wealthy white aristocrat, Oliver Connaught, portrayed by Jonny Lee-Miller. As the story unfolds, they discover a dark connection between historical horrors and present-day injustices at the Connaught family’s Jamaican plantation, Hope Hill.
Directed by Storm Saulter and produced by Snowed-In Productions in association with Sky Studios, “Inheritance” promises to be a gripping and thought-provoking series. The show was unveiled during Content London and will be available on Sky in the UK and Ireland, with NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution handling international sales.
Karla Crome, the series’ writer and creator, expressed excitement about seeing the talented cast bring her characters to life under Saulter’s direction.
