During a social gathering at Trinity Methodist schoolroom, an illuminated address was presented to Mr and Mrs Joseph Sparrow in honor of their diamond wedding anniversary. The address, signed by the minister and church office-bearers, expressed the love and esteem of their fellow church members towards the couple. Rev. H.E. Bellhouse commended their high Christian characters and unwavering dedication to Christian work. Mr. W.H. Duke, representing the church members, acknowledged the couple’s continued loyalty and support in Christian enterprise, wishing God’s blessings upon them in their later years. Mr. Sparrow, reflecting on his long-standing connection to Trinity Church, thanked the donors for the thoughtful gift, hoping it would be cherished as a family heirloom. Mrs. Sparrow also expressed her gratitude for the gift.

Cross-dressed for a bet

A man in Dunedin learned a valuable lesson after dressing as a woman for a bet and attending the Olympic Skating Hall. Despite initial curiosity from onlookers, he was eventually exposed and faced with dire consequences. The masquerader’s true identity was revealed after he was confronted by officials, leading to embarrassment and a hasty retreat from the hall. This amusing incident serves as a cautionary tale for those considering such antics in public. — ODT, 5.12.1924
