Rep. Matt Gaetz Resigns from Congress Amid Attorney General Confirmation Process
Following former President Donald Trump’s surprising announcement, House Speaker Mike Johnson confirmed that Rep. Matt Gaetz has resigned from Congress. Gaetz’s departure is reportedly related to his preparation for the attorney general confirmation process.
According to sources cited by ABC News, there was a visible reaction in the room when Trump selected Gaetz for the potential nomination. The Justice Department has initiated an investigation into Gaetz regarding alleged sex trafficking allegations, while the House Ethics Committee has also launched its own inquiry into the matter.
In a recent interview with Charlie Kirk, Gaetz announced that he does not plan to seek reelection to Congress in 2025.
“I will continue to be actively engaged in the political landscape, but I will be doing so from a different vantage point. I have decided not to run for the 119th Congress,” Gaetz stated.
