Caroline Dewison, the talented artist behind A House of Wonders, creates intricate miniature scenes within small ovoid frames that are truly captivating. Drawing inspiration from the woodlands surrounding her studio in Warrington, England, Dewison’s latest creations take her artwork to a new level of mystique and wonder.

In her most recent pieces, UFOs hover above tiny streams and valleys, creating a stark contrast against the hand-painted nature scenes. Dewison’s fascination with the possibility of extraterrestrial beings dates back to her childhood and continues to be a driving force in her artistry. She muses, “In my lifetime, it’s gone from there being just us to scientists finding hundreds and thousands of exoplanets, many with the possibility of life. I would like to think that we’re not alone.” The UFOs in her dioramas are cleverly attached to protrude from two-dimensional backgrounds, adding depth and intrigue to the scenes.

In addition to exploring her interest in the extraterrestrial, Dewison has also reignited her passion for automata. She enjoys the challenge of problem-solving and engineering mechanisms that bring her artwork to life. The miniature UFOs in her pieces are not just static elements but rotate and drift above alien crop circles and dense pine forests, adding a dynamic element to the overall composition.

While Dewison primarily works with materials like laser-cut plywood, Jesmonite, acrylic paint, clay, and a 3D-printing pen, she is also experimenting with new frame designs to enhance her creations further.

The artist has a busy year ahead, with her work currently on display at Momentum Gallery in Asheville as part of the “Small Works | Big Impact” exhibition. Additionally, her dioramas will be featured at the Oddities and Curiosities Expo in Melbourne with Beinart Gallery later this month. Those interested in owning Dewison’s miniature marvels can find them for sale on her website, A House of Wonders. Stay tuned to her Instagram account for updates on new work, upcoming shows, and more.
