Rash of burglaries targeting Asian homes spreads to Lone Tree

A recent surge in residential burglaries targeting Asian families in metro Denver has now reached Lone Tree, according to the local police department. The Lone Tree police reported a significant increase in burglaries over the past few weeks, which appears to be part of a larger trend in the Denver Metro area.

These burglaries have predominantly affected Asian households, with thieves stealing cash, purses, jewelry, and other high-value items. The suspects are believed to gain entry by breaking large windows or sliding glass doors at the back of homes, particularly those bordering commercial properties, open spaces, or golf courses.

Following two recent burglaries in the Heritage Hills neighborhood, Lone Tree officers identified a suspicious vehicle through security camera footage. The vehicle, a gray GMC Envoy with distinctive damage to the front driver’s side, non-matching wheels, and a sunroof, was seen at both crime scenes without license plates.

If anyone spots this vehicle, they are urged to contact 911 immediately. Residents with security cameras are also encouraged to review their footage for any sightings of the gray GMC Envoy.

While no one has been home during the burglaries so far, the Douglas County sheriff’s deputies have noticed a similar pattern targeting Asian business owners who are away from home. They suspect the involvement of an organized group like the South American Theft Gang, known for targeting high-end retail stores and homes by disabling security systems and stealing valuable items.

Although the gang has been linked to other burglaries in Aspen, it is unclear if they are behind the Lone Tree incidents. Lone Tree investigators are collaborating with law enforcement agencies across the metro area to investigate these cases and enhance patrols in residential neighborhoods.

Anyone with information on these burglaries is urged to contact investigators at 720-509-1225 or the anonymous tip line at 720-509-1160.
