The collaboration between The Jaunt and Hashimoto Contemporary brought together three talented women artists for a week-long residency in Shelton, near Olympia National Park. Bianca Nemelc, Genevieve Cohn, and Seonna Hong immersed themselves in the local history, explored the natural surroundings, and delved into each other’s artistic practices during the inaugural Winter Camp.

The Jaunt, founded by Jeroen Smeets in 2013, orchestrates these creative journeys for artists around the world, offering them a chance to break away from their daily routines and find inspiration in new environments. The Winter Camp residency encouraged the artists to focus on painting and works on paper, drawing from the lush landscapes of the Pacific Northwest and the spirit of togetherness that emerged from their shared experience.

Genevieve Cohn’s piece “We Sow a Softness” captures the essence of the residency with its delicate strokes and calming hues, while Bianca Nemelc’s “Sun Catcher” radiates warmth and light. Seonna Hong’s “Get Your Bag” exudes a sense of adventure and curiosity, reflecting the exploration that took place during the artists’ time together.

The artworks created during Winter Camp are currently on display at Hashimoto Contemporary in San Francisco until December 21. The exhibition showcases the unique perspectives and creative energy that emerged from the collaboration, highlighting the diverse talents of Nemelc, Cohn, and Hong. By immersing themselves in a new environment and engaging with one another’s artistic practices, the artists of Winter Camp found inspiration and community in the tranquil setting of Shelton. The residency not only allowed them to create new work but also fostered connections and shared experiences that will continue to influence their artistic journeys.
