26-Year-Old Suspect in UnitedHealthcare CEO Murder Case Retains Former Prosecutor as Attorney
Luigi Mangione, the 26-year-old charged with killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, has reportedly hired Karen Friedman Agnifilo, a former prosecutor and ex-CNN legal analyst, to represent him in New York. According to CNN, Mangione is currently in custody in Pennsylvania on gun-related charges and is fighting extradition to New York, where he faces second-degree murder charges.
New evidence, including a 3D-printed gun that matched shell casings found at the crime scene, has been discovered. Mangione’s fingerprints also matched those found on items near the scene. CNN legal analyst Jennifer Rodgers described Friedman Agnifilo as the ideal attorney for the case, noting her experience and expertise.
Friedman Agnifilo had previously mentioned a potential “not guilty by reason of insanity” defense due to the overwhelming evidence against Mangione. His lawyer in Pennsylvania, Thomas Dickey, stated that Mangione would plead not guilty in that state and emphasized the need for substantial evidence.
