The highly anticipated rematch between UConn and USC is set to take place this week in Hartford, Conn. Both teams have top-10 offenses and defenses, making them strong contenders for a national title. The preseason hype for the matchup centered around the projected favorites for the national Player of the Year award, Paige Bueckers and JuJu Watkins. However, Hannah Hidalgo has emerged as a standout player this season, outshining both Bueckers and Watkins in their matchups against Notre Dame.

Hidalgo’s impressive performances have put her in the lead for the NPOY race, but she faces tough competition from other standout players like Lauren Betts and Madison Booker. With teams like UCLA and Texas also in the mix with top-ranked offenses and defenses, the race for the Player of the Year title is shaping up to be highly competitive this season.

The upcoming showdown between UConn and USC adds even more excitement to the mix, as both teams’ star players will be looking to make a statement and gain ground on Hidalgo. The game will serve as a pre-tournament test for both teams and an opportunity for their top players to showcase their skills on a national stage.

In addition to the UConn vs. USC matchup, three rising teams to watch out for this season include Southern California, Kentucky, and Georgia Tech. USC’s Rayah Marshall has been a dominant defensive presence and has shown improvement on the offensive end, making her a key player for the Trojans. Kentucky’s Georgia Amoore has been rediscovering her shooting touch, while Georgia Tech has surprised many with their unbeaten record in the ACC.

On the other hand, Texas and Iowa are two teams that have been struggling recently. Texas, despite impressive wins, has some concerns about their offensive strategy and lack of scoring options beyond Madison Booker. Iowa, on the other hand, has been plagued by turnovers in crucial moments, impacting their ability to close out games effectively.

As the season progresses, these teams will look to address their weaknesses and build on their strengths to make a strong push towards the NCAA tournament. The competition is fierce this year, with several teams vying for the top spot, setting the stage for an exciting and unpredictable season of college basketball.
