Hyundai Offers Free Charging Adapter for EV Customers

Hyundai announced on Monday that it will be providing customers who have purchased or leased an electric vehicle (EV) before January 31 with a complimentary charging adapter. This adapter will allow them to access Tesla’s extensive supercharging network.

The Hyundai-authorized adapter is designed for CCS-port-equipped Hyundai EV drivers, granting them access to over 20,000 Tesla Superchargers across the United States, as stated by Hyundai. Owners of model-year 2024 and earlier Kona Electric, Ioniq hatchback, Ioniq 5, and Ioniq 6 vehicles are eligible to receive the free adapter. Additionally, model-year 2025 Ioniq 6, Ioniq 5 N, and Kona Electric vehicles qualify for this offer.

To obtain the free NACs adapter, customers must submit a request through the online MyHyundai owner portal.

The adoption of Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACs) has gained momentum following announcements from Ford and GM in 2023 about incorporating the technology into their next generation of EVs. These automakers also plan to sell adapters for current EV owners to access the NACs network. Prior to this development, Tesla was the only manufacturer using the Combined Charging System (CCS) connectors.

Many other automakers have since followed suit, forming partnerships with Tesla to offer NACs adapters to their customers. Companies like Lucid are also integrating the charging port into their upcoming EV models.

While the rollout of NACs adapters has faced some challenges, with non-Tesla customers experiencing delays, several automakers have begun shipping the adapters in recent months.
