A FedEx contract worker in Bonifay, Florida, has recently been apprehended for allegedly discarding numerous packages in the woods to avoid working late. Latavion Lewis, a contracted employee from Alabama, was arrested after the local post office received multiple reports of FedEx packages strewn along the roadside and in wooded areas during the busiest delivery season of the year.

Upon meeting with deputies, Lewis admitted to disposing of the packages rather than returning them to the FedEx warehouse due to the late hour at which he was working. As a result, he was charged with grand theft, illegal dumping, and organized scheme to defraud. Currently, Lewis is being held in the Holmes County Jail.

Authorities have managed to recover 44 packages so far, enabling them to be delivered to their rightful recipients. FedEx has confirmed that Lewis is no longer associated with the company and emphasized their commitment to the safe and secure transport of customers’ shipments. The company is cooperating with the ongoing investigation and ensuring that the undelivered packages are successfully delivered.

In a statement, FedEx expressed their dismay over the incident and reiterated their top priority of ensuring the safe delivery of parcels. They stated that the individual involved in the incident is no longer providing services for the company and emphasized their cooperation with the authorities in the investigation.

As the holiday season approaches, FedEx had previously announced their readiness to handle a staggering 16 million packages per day to meet the demands of the holiday shipping rush. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding integrity and responsibility in the delivery industry to guarantee the timely and secure delivery of packages to customers.
