Washington Sundar, the talented all-rounder from India, recently took to social media to share some nostalgic pictures from the Gabba in Brisbane ahead of the third Test between India and Australia, set to commence on December 14. The images he posted were from the historic 2020-21 tour where India secured a remarkable three-wicket victory at the venue, ultimately winning the series 2-1.

Among the pictures shared by Sundar was one featuring his pet dog named after the iconic cricket ground – Gabba. The cricketer captioned his Instagram post with a simple yet meaningful message, “Gabba (bat ball emoji).”

It was in Brisbane that Washington Sundar made his Test debut, showcasing his talent with the bat by scoring 62 and 22 in his two innings. Notably, he played a pivotal role in a crucial 123-run partnership with Shardul Thakur for the seventh wicket in the first innings, helping India fight back in the match. Additionally, the off-spinner also impressed with the ball, picking up four wickets during the game.

In a recent development, Indian cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara suggested a change in the playing XI for the Brisbane Test, advocating for Washington Sundar to replace Ravichandran Ashwin. Pujara emphasized the need to strengthen the batting lineup after India’s dismal performances in Adelaide. He stated, “I feel only one change might happen. Since the batting wasn’t good, Washington Sundar can come in place of R Ashwin.”

Despite Ashwin’s consistent performances, Sundar’s ability to contribute with both bat and ball makes him a valuable asset. With scores of 4 and 29 in the first Test and two crucial wickets to his name, Sundar has proven his worth in the Indian team. In seven Test matches, the 25-year-old has amassed 387 runs and taken 24 wickets, showcasing his all-round capabilities.

Pujara also voiced his support for Harshit Rana, even though the young bowler went wicketless in the previous Test. He emphasized the importance of backing Rana and giving him another opportunity to prove himself. Pujara mentioned, “He is a good bowler. You cannot drop him just because one match went bad. Probably the only change for me would be Sundar for Ashwin if the team feels the batting lineup needs strengthening.”

Harshit Rana, who finished with figures of 0/86 in the second Test, is expected to bounce back and deliver a better performance in the upcoming match. With Pujara’s insights and the team’s strategic decisions, India aims to put up a strong show in the crucial Test at the Gabba.
