Setting up a new iPhone or iPad is always an exciting experience, especially with the latest iOS 18 making the process easier than ever. If you’ve just got your hands on a new Apple device, here’s a step-by-step guide to help you get started and customize your device to suit your needs.

How to set up a new iPhone or iPad

  1. Power on your iPhone or iPad
To start, press and hold the power button on your iPhone or iPad until the Apple logo appears.

  2. Choose your language
The screen will display ‘Hello’ in several languages. Swipe up to choose your preferred language and region.

  3. Adjust text and icon sizes
Personalize the size of text and icons on your device by selecting from ‘Default’, ‘Medium’, or ‘Large’. Use the slider to preview each size and tap ‘Continue’ once you’ve found a comfortable setting.

  4. Choose Quick Start or manual setup
If you have another Apple device, you can use ‘Quick Start’ to transfer settings and data wirelessly. Simply follow the on-screen instructions when placing the two devices near each other. If you don’t have another device, select ‘Set Up Without Another Device’.

  5. Choose a Wi-Fi Network
Select a Wi-Fi network to connect your device to the internet.

  6. Select who the device is for
Decide if you’re setting up the device for yourself or a child, and set up Family Sharing and parental controls if needed.

  7. Set Up Face ID or Touch ID and create a passcode
Enhance security by setting up Face ID or Touch ID and creating a passcode for your device.

  8. Transfer your data
Choose how to transfer your data and apps to your new device, whether it’s from iCloud Backup, another iPhone, Mac or PC, or Android.

  9. Sign in with your Apple ID
Sign in with your Apple ID or create a new account if you don’t have one. You can also add multiple accounts if needed.

  10. Configure updates and key features
Enable automatic updates, set up ‘Location Services’, add credit or debit cards to Apple Pay, configure Siri, set up ‘Screen Time’, and select your preferred appearance mode.

  11. Welcome to iPhone or iPad
Swipe up to finish setting up your device. Your iPhone or iPad is now ready to use.

Once you’ve completed these steps, your new iPhone or iPad is set up and customized to your preferences. If you want to explore more features, check out how to set a song as your iPhone ringtone or learn how to use Find My iPhone in case of loss. Enjoy your new Apple device!
