Woman Pleads Guilty to String of Burglaries in Chicago

A woman named Adelaide Tamayo, aged 45, has recently pleaded guilty to a series of burglaries spanning from Bucktown to Lakeview in Chicago. The crimes involved thefts from residential buildings, including an incident where she was accused of stealing Christmas gifts from under a victim’s tree.

Incidents and Accusations

The criminal activities by Tamayo began on December 4, 2022, when she entered a condo building on West Armitage and forcibly removed a Ring doorbell camera. The victim of this theft posted surveillance images of Tamayo on social media, leading to threatening text messages being sent to the victim.

Following this, Tamayo and an accomplice were involved in multiple break-ins, stealing packages from residential buildings and storage units. Surveillance footage captured the thieves in action, and one camera even recorded the license plate of the getaway car, which was registered to Tamayo.

In another incident, a Lakeview resident caught Tamayo and her accomplice with stolen Christmas presents from under his tree. The victim managed to confront the thieves and retrieve the packages before they could escape.

On New Year’s Day in 2023, Tamayo and her partner were caught breaking into a car in a garage after attempting to gain entry into an apartment under false pretenses.

Legal Actions and Sentencing

On December 5, Tamayo pleaded guilty to six counts of burglary and one count of phone harassment. She was sentenced to four years for the burglaries and three years for the harassment charge, with the terms to be served concurrently. Tamayo was released on Christmas Eve after spending 13 days in prison, thanks to the state’s 50% good behavior credit and time served on an ankle monitor.

It is worth noting that no charges were brought against Tamayo’s alleged accomplices in these crimes.
