Akyreian Anders, an 18-year-old man, has been charged with carjacking a driver and shooting a witness who chased after the hijacked vehicle in Chicago. This incident took place on August 30 in the 8100 block of South Escabana.

According to prosecutors, Anders, along with 18-year-olds Randle Archie and Mercedes Jones, carjacked a 37-year-old man’s 2017 Audi Q7 at gunpoint. Jones allegedly lured the victim into the hijacking under the pretense of wanting to buy weed. Archie then pointed a gun at the man, and the group stole the SUV.

Following the carjacking, a 41-year-old woman started to pursue the carjackers in another vehicle, with the victim riding shotgun. The chase came to a halt when Anders fired shots from the stolen Audi, grazing the pursuing woman’s shoulder.

Police were able to track an AirTag connected to the victim’s key fob to locate Archie and Jones shortly after the incident. Anders was arrested on Thursday and appeared in court on Friday, where Judge Shauna Boliker decided to detain him due to his “brazen acts of extreme violence.”

Archie and Jones are currently being held at the county jail awaiting trial. The incident highlights the ongoing issue of carjackings in Chicago and the dangerous consequences that can result from such crimes.
