Chicago police officers were involved in a fatal shooting early Friday morning at the Albany Terrace CHA complex in Little Village. The incident occurred at 3030 West 21st Place, where officers responded to a domestic disturbance call involving a woman and her boyfriend. Initially, the police were informed that the man was unarmed, but moments later, they received new information indicating that he was armed with a knife and in a physical altercation with the woman.

At 2:18 a.m., an officer at the scene reported “shots fired” and declared a police emergency after the man, armed with a knife, advanced towards the officers. The officers discharged their weapons, striking the man multiple times. Despite attempts to save him by applying tourniquets and performing chest compressions, the man succumbed to his injuries at Mt. Sinai Hospital.

In a statement released by the Chicago Police Department, it was confirmed that the officers responded to a call of a person with a knife inside a sixth-floor apartment on W. 21st Place. The officers were confronted by the armed man as they knocked on the apartment door, leading to the use of deadly force. The officers involved in the incident were transported to a nearby hospital for observation.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is conducting a comprehensive investigation into the incident, with the full cooperation of the Chicago Police Department. The specifics of the use of force are being scrutinized, and the Investigative Response Team is on the scene to gather evidence and information.
