May Mobility Unveils New Electric Autonomous Minibus at CES 2025

May Mobility, a leading autonomous vehicle technology startup, made a big announcement at CES 2025 by revealing the latest addition to its vehicle lineup: an electric, autonomous minibus created in collaboration with European electric bus manufacturer Tecnobus.

Based in Ann Arbor, May Mobility specializes in providing on-demand and fixed-route autonomous shuttles on college campuses and in planned communities. Currently, the company operates a fleet of 40 Toyota Sienna minivans that have been retrofitted with May’s cutting-edge software and hardware self-driving technology, accommodating up to eight passengers each. The upcoming Tecnobus vehicles, set to join the existing Sienna fleet by late 2026, will be able to transport up to 30 passengers, including those with wheelchairs.

The new Tecnobus minibus from May Mobility is specifically designed for urban transit, corporate campuses, airports, and planned communities. Featuring swappable batteries to minimize downtime, the vehicle has already received approval for use in Europe and Canada.

When asked about the expansion plans for these buses, May Mobility has yet to disclose the exact number of vehicles that will be added to its fleet or the specific markets they will serve.

Currently, May Mobility operates shuttle services with a safety driver in cities such as Arlington, Texas; Detroit, Michigan; and Grand Rapids, Minnesota. The company has also made strides in international markets, including Japan, where a partnership with telecom giant NTT has paved the way for autonomous vehicle trials in cities like Nagoya, Tokyo, and Fukuoka.

In a recent development, May Mobility launched a pilot program in Ann Arbor featuring driverless shuttles, marking a significant step towards fully autonomous transportation.
