Sophie O’Neill’s Detailed Embroidery Journals Chronicle All 365 Days of the Year — Colossal

Embroidery as a form of artistic expression has gained popularity in recent years, with creators like Sophie O’Neill, also known as The Stir-Crazy Crafter, leading the way. Each day, O’Neill stitches a symbol or word that represents her day on a circular canvas divided into 12 sections, each representing a month. This unique approach allows her to curate a collection of 365 icons by the end of the year, capturing the essence of each day in a creative and personal way. As 2024 came to a close, O’Neill completed her fifth journal, totaling over 1,800 individual images.

Even on mundane days, O’Neill finds ways to document her experiences through embroidery. Whether it’s a cup of coffee, a firework, or a tissue, she translates everyday activities into intricate stitches. This process challenges her to think creatively and find beauty in the ordinary moments of life.

One essential tool in O’Neill’s embroidery journey is the needle minder, a magnetic pin holder that keeps her needle secure when not in use. This handy accessory ensures that she never loses her needle and can seamlessly transition between different stitches and designs.

In addition to her daily journal, O’Neill also embroiders bookmarks shaped like shelves to track the books she reads throughout the year. Each shelf is filled with colorful stitches that represent the titles she has enjoyed, creating a visual library of her literary adventures.

For those looking to embark on their own embroidery journaling journey, O’Neill offers patterns and supplies in her Etsy shop and shares updates on her Instagram account. She also invites fellow embroidery enthusiasts to join her Facebook group to share progress, exchange ideas, and find inspiration from others’ designs.
