Missouri Woman Sentenced to 12 Years for Arson Using Takis Chips

A Missouri woman, identified as Patricia Williams, has been handed a 12-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to first-degree arson for setting fire to a home using a bag of Takis tortilla chips. The incident took place on August 11, 2023, in Greene County.

Williams confessed to authorities that she used the Takis chips to start the fire, knowing that the high grease content in the snack would cause it to combust easily, as per court documents.

Surveillance footage captured Williams purchasing gasoline from a nearby gas station before entering the home and pouring the fuel onto a pile of clothes and the laundry room floor. She then ignited the Takis chips and threw the flaming bag onto the gasoline-soaked garments, resulting in the house catching fire.

Fortunately, three individuals were able to escape the burning house unharmed and reported Williams to the authorities after witnessing the incident. Williams was found with soot on her face and was subsequently booked at Greene County Jail.

It was also revealed that Williams had multiple outstanding warrants for her arrest, adding to the severity of her arson case. The exact relationship between Williams and the victims of the fire remains unclear at this time.
