In his second year as general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Brad Treliving has been making all the right moves. From bringing in a new coach to leading the team to the top of their division, Treliving’s work has been instrumental in the Leafs’ success this season. However, not every move has been a slam dunk, as evidenced by the signing of defenseman Jani Hakanpaa for $1.47 million.

Hakanpaa, who has only played two games this season and has been sidelined with knee troubles, has been a disappointment according to hockey analyst Jonas Siegel. Despite being signed to a one-year deal, concerns about his performance and playing time have only grown as the season has progressed. Siegel believes that Hakanpaa’s lackluster play does not bode well for his future with the team.

On the other hand, Treliving’s decision to sign defenseman Chris Tanev to a six-year deal has been a stroke of genius. Tanev has been a standout player for the Leafs, consistently performing well and staying healthy while his teammates have been plagued by injuries. Leading the team in various statistical categories, Tanev has proven to be a valuable asset to the Leafs and a key contributor to their success.

Overall, Treliving’s tenure as general manager has been marked by both successes and setbacks. While the signing of Hakanpaa may not have panned out as expected, the acquisition of Tanev has more than made up for it. As the Leafs continue their quest for a championship, Treliving’s strategic moves will undoubtedly play a crucial role in their success on the ice.
