Bronx Man Charged with Murder in Fatal Stabbing of 14-Year-Old Boy
A Bronx man, Waldo Mejia, has been charged with murder in the fatal stabbing of a 14-year-old boy, Caleb Rijos, on East 138th Street near Lincoln Avenue. Mejia is also facing manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon charges in connection to the incident.
Caleb Rijos, who did not know his attacker, was standing on the sidewalk when he was stabbed twice in the chest. Despite being rushed to Lincoln Medical Center, he tragically succumbed to his injuries.
Police believe that Mejia is also responsible for a previous stabbing at the Third Avenue and East 138th Street subway station where a 38-year-old man was slashed in the left arm. Mejia has a history of criminal cases, including incidents involving burglary, arson, and possession of weapons.
After Rijos’ murder, surveillance footage of the suspected attacker was released, prompting a city-wide search for Mejia. Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny confirmed that Mejia has been linked to multiple criminal incidents in the past.
Mejia’s criminal record includes charges related to arson, burglary, and possession of illegal weapons. Despite his prior run-ins with the law, Mejia’s motives in the fatal stabbing of Caleb Rijos remain unclear.
