The shocking case of Dominique Pelicot, the French man who drugged and raped his wife for years and allowed other men to do the same, has left a lasting impact on his family. His daughter, Caroline Darian, has spoken out about the devastating betrayal she experienced when her mother revealed the horrifying truth.

In an interview with BBC Radio 4, Darian described the moment her mother, Gisèle Pelicot, disclosed that she had been drugged and sexually assaulted by her husband for a decade. The revelation was like an earthquake for Darian, shattering her perception of her father and her family life.

Dominique Pelicot was convicted on all charges related to the horrific abuse, and he was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Darian believes that he should never be released, calling him a dangerous man who deserves to “die in prison.”

During the trial, Darian bravely testified that she believes she was also a victim of her father’s sickening actions. She identified herself as the unconscious woman in disturbing photos found on his computer, leading her to label him as “the worst sexual predator of the last 20 years.”

The emotional toll of discovering her father’s crimes has been immense for Darian. She struggled to recognize herself in the photos, experiencing a dissociation effect that made it difficult to come to terms with the reality of the abuse.

Despite the lack of physical evidence of her own victimization, Darian is determined to use her experience to advocate for other victims of drugging and sexual assault. She authored a book titled “I’ll Never Call Him Dad Again” to raise awareness and support those who may not have evidence of their trauma.

As Darian continues to navigate the complexities of being both the daughter of an abuser and a victim, she remains resolute in her belief that her father’s actions were deliberate and predatory. She is determined to ensure that he is held accountable for his crimes and that other victims are believed and supported in seeking justice.
