Get ready to bundle up, Colorado! The National Weather Service is warning of subzero temperatures, wind, and snow heading towards Denver this weekend.

Light snow has already started falling in the mountains of northern Colorado on Tuesday morning, according to NWS forecasters. This snow is expected to move into Denver and the Eastern Plains by Friday, ushering in a chilly weekend.

“An arctic airmass will bring bitterly cold air to Colorado starting Saturday and lasting through Monday night,” NWS forecasters stated in a Hazardous Weather Alert.

According to the forecast, most of northern and central Colorado will experience temperatures below zero degrees over the weekend.

Overnight lows in metro Denver, the Interstate 25 Corridor, and the Eastern Plains are projected to drop to minus 15 to minus 20, with windchill making it feel like 30 degrees below zero.

The coldest day in Denver this weekend is expected to be Sunday, with temperatures peaking around 6 degrees and plummeting to below minus 10 overnight into Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

In areas south of Denver, such as Parker and Castle Rock, temperature lows are forecasted to reach around minus 15 over the weekend, as per NWS forecasters.

Light snow showers will persist in the Denver area through Sunday, forecasters mentioned. The exact amount of snow accumulation remains uncertain, but there is a possibility of several inches of dry, powdery snow.

The coldest temperatures will hit northern Colorado, particularly near Kremmling and Walden, where temperatures could dip to around minus 15 to 17 on multiple days this weekend.

Denver and the rest of the state are expected to gradually warm up starting Tuesday, with daytime highs hovering around the low 30s, as indicated by forecasters.
