We Earthlings: Microplastics In Your Tea?
SHARE

Research from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona has shed light on a concerning discovery: brewing tea with plastic tea bags can release millions to billions of microplastic particles into your cup. This revelation highlights the potential health and environmental risks associated with the use of plastic tea bags.

According to the study, polypropylene tea bags may shed approximately 1.2 billion particles per milliliter, with each particle measuring about 137 nanometers in size. Cellulose and nylon-6 tea bags also release significant amounts of these tiny particles, adding to the overall microplastic pollution.

To minimize your exposure to microplastics and make a healthier choice, consider switching to steeping loose tea leaves in a stainless steel tea infuser. Not only does this simple switch enhance your tea experience, but it also supports your health and the environment by reducing the release of microplastics into your tea.

In addition to making changes in your tea brewing habits, you can also raise awareness and inspire others to make sustainable choices by sharing We Earthlings posters. These posters serve as a visual reminder of the impact of our daily actions on the planet and can motivate others to make positive changes in their own lives.

By taking small steps like switching to loose leaf tea and sharing educational resources, we can all play a part in reducing microplastic pollution and creating a healthier, more sustainable future for our planet. Let’s work together to make a difference and protect the environment for generations to come.
