Damian Lillard is making a strong push for his ninth NBA All-Star selection as he currently sits in third place for Eastern Conference guards in the fan voting for the 2024-25 All-Star Game. The Milwaukee guard is trailing behind LaMelo Ball and Donovan Mitchell, but his teammate Giannis Antetokounmpo is urging fans to vote for him.
In a recent Instagram story, Antetokounmpo posted a picture of himself and Lillard on the court, encouraging fans to support his teammate. Lillard reciprocated the support by sharing Antetokounmpo’s story on his own account, with a playful message saying, “Turn me up sir lol.”
With just over 161,500 votes behind second place, Lillard still has a chance to secure a starting spot in the All-Star Game. Antetokounmpo is currently leading the fan votes not only in the Eastern Conference Frontcourt but also across the entire league.
The All-Star starters are determined by a combination of fan, player, and media votes, while the reserves are selected by coaches. The starters will be announced on Jan. 23 on TNT, with the reserves following on Jan. 30 during the network’s NBA Tip-Off show.
Lillard’s statistics this season make a strong case for his All-Star selection. He is averaging 24.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, 7.4 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. Additionally, he has improved his field goal and three-point shooting percentages compared to last year, helping the Bucks to the fifth spot in the Eastern Conference.
Despite tough competition from players like Jalen Brunson and Trae Young, who are also vying for All-Star reserve spots, Lillard’s consistent performance and leadership on the court make him a strong contender. Brunson has been instrumental in leading the Knicks to the third spot in the East, while Young is dominating the league with 12.2 assists per game for the Hawks.
