Kat Dennings Reflects on Early Experiences in Hollywood
From her debut on the WB sitcom “Raising Dad” 24 years ago, Kat Dennings has navigated the ups and downs of the entertainment industry with grace and resilience.
In a recent interview with People, Dennings opened up about the harsh criticism she faced from casting directors at a young age.
Recalling the early days of her career, Dennings shared, “The environment back then was very different. It lacked inclusivity and was filled with negativity. People were not hesitant to deliver extremely harsh feedback.”
Despite being just 12 years old, Dennings was subjected to hurtful comments about her appearance. “I would go for auditions and be told I wasn’t pretty enough or that I was overweight,” she revealed.
However, Dennings maintained a strong mindset and credits her family for instilling confidence in her. “I had a ‘I’ll show them’ attitude. My parents were my biggest supporters and always reminded me not to let negative opinions affect me,” she said.
Over the years, Dennings has witnessed a shift in Hollywood towards a more positive and inclusive culture. She described the industry’s evolution as “much softer” and “kinder” compared to the past.
“There’s now a focus on body positivity, inclusivity, and representation, which was lacking before. It’s a welcome change from the ‘completely insane’ era I started in,” Dennings reflected.
