Giorgio Armani Redefines Menswear at Milan Fashion Week
This morning, as I stopped to tie my bootlace at the streetcar stop across from The Armani Hotel, I was surprised to see Adrien Brody and Joe Alwyn emerging from the building. The co-stars of The Brutalist were making their way to the second Giorgio Armani show of the day, showcasing their all-Armani outfits with effortless style on Via Manzoni.
Giorgio Armani himself had just taken his final bow in a white sneakers, dark blue pants, and a black double-breasted velvet jacket. It was clear that velvet was a prominent theme in his latest collection, as seen at both the Giorgio and Emporio shows during Milan Fashion Week.
Armani’s latest collection showcased a mix of tailoring, evening wear, outerwear, and more, all seamlessly integrated into a modern and refreshing aesthetic. The standout feature was the unconventional placement of pockets on wide-legged pants, adding a unique twist to classic menswear silhouettes.
The collection also featured a range of skiwear, reflecting Armani’s anticipation of the upcoming Winter Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina. Reflective panels and luxurious textures added a futuristic element to the traditional designs.
Gilets and knitwear were layered under textured suits, paired with velvet sneakers or Vibram-soled moccasins. Colors were divided into distinct sections, with harmoniously clashing patterns creating a dynamic visual impact.
Leather jackets, reminiscent of Armani’s iconic archive pieces, were styled with ruby velvet shirts and wool trousers, showcasing a mix of textures and materials. The collection culminated in a series of his-and-hers evening wear duets, featuring black velvet embellished with sparkling crystals and stones.
As Armani took his final bow, the audience, which included stars like Luca Marinelli from Mussolini: Son of the Century, eagerly awaited the start of the second show. The seamless blend of classic tailoring and contemporary design elements reaffirmed Armani’s status as a visionary in the world of menswear.
