Israel is hopeful that President Trump will promptly lift the Biden administration’s pause on providing 2,000-pound “bunker buster” bombs to the country, as per a recent report.
The outgoing Israeli ambassador to the United States, Mike Herzog, mentioned to Axios on Monday that he anticipates President Trump to reverse the US weapons-supply ban within his initial days back in the White House.
“We believe that Trump is going to release, at the beginning of his term, the munitions that haven’t been released until now by the Biden administration,” Herzog stated.
Previously, former President Joe Biden had stopped a shipment of the 2,000-pound bombs to Israel in May due to concerns about their potential use in Gaza leading to civilian casualties.
The US had previously provided over 10,000 of these highly destructive bombs, known as “bunker busters,” to Israel during the conflict.
The ban allegedly triggered one of the most significant crises in US-Israel relations since the conflict between Israel and Hamas began on October 7, 2023.
Israeli officials anticipate that Trump will make several immediate decisions concerning the Israel-Hamas conflict, including the potential reversal of the bomb supply ban.
As Trump signed an executive order on Monday to temporarily halt all US foreign-assistance programs for 90 days to assess their alignment with “American values,” the report surfaced.
