OpenAI CEO Sam Altman Invests in Retro Biosciences for Longevity Research

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is showing his commitment to the field of biotechnology by doubling down on Retro Biosciences, a San Francisco-based startup with a bold mission. The company aims to extend human lifespans by a decade beyond what is currently considered a healthy lifespan.

Altman had previously provided Retro Biosciences with a significant investment of $180 million during its seed round. Now, the startup is in the process of raising a Series A funding round of $1 billion, with Altman once again showing his support, according to a report by the Financial Times.

Retro Biosciences is focused on developing innovative drugs to target diseases such as Alzheimer’s. One of its recent achievements includes training a model with the help of OpenAI to transform regular cells into stem cells, showcasing the company’s commitment to cutting-edge research and development.

CEO Joe Betts-LaCroix has expressed a sense of urgency in the company’s mission, stating a goal of discovering and developing a groundbreaking drug within the next decade. With a focus on innovation and speed, Retro Biosciences is poised to make significant strides in the field of longevity research.

The startup is not alone in its pursuit of extending human lifespan. Other billionaire-backed initiatives, such as Altos Labs and Unity Biotechnology, have also made significant investments in anti-aging research. Altos Labs, supported by Jeff Bezos with a $3 billion investment, and Unity Biotechnology, backed by both Bezos and Peter Thiel, are just a few examples of the growing interest in longevity research among tech billionaires.
