An incident of extreme violence occurred on a northbound 5 train in the Bronx on Sunday morning when an unhinged maniac stabbed a fellow passenger multiple times. The victim, a 25-year-old man, was attacked by an unknown assailant near Grand Concourse and East 149th Street, causing serious injuries. The suspect, described as a male with a dark complexion, fled the scene before police arrived.
Upon receiving a 911 call, law enforcement responded promptly, and the victim was rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln in critical but stable condition. The identity of the victim has not been released to the public. The suspect, who was last seen wearing a red sweatshirt, black vest, dark pants, and dark shoes, is still at large as the investigation continues.
This disturbing incident adds to the string of violent crimes that have plagued the city’s subway system in recent years. In 2024, the number of murders on the subway reached a level not seen in 25 years, with 10 passengers falling victim to fatal attacks. The safety and security of commuters remain a significant concern as authorities work to address these escalating issues.
