Pelle Rådström, the talented writer behind the acclaimed series “Black Crab,” has once again proven his skill by winning the Nordic Series Script Award at the Göteborg Film Festival for his screenplay “Pressure Point.” This gripping three-part miniseries delves into the events leading up to a series of murders that deeply impacted Sweden.
The announcement of Rådström’s win was made during an awards ceremony on Jan. 28 at the Göteborg Film Festival’s TV Drama Vision. The prestigious award, which comes with a cash prize of €17,000 ($), is funded by the Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
Rådström’s success with “Pressure Point” comes at a time of tension between Sweden’s film and TV industry and the government. The festival’s honorary president, Ruben Östlund, criticized Sweden’s cultural policy as being embarrassingly uninformed, following a speech by culture minister Parisa Liljestrand at the festival’s opening ceremony.
Amidst this backdrop, Rådström’s award also highlights the support of public broadcaster SVT for a series that offers both thrilling entertainment and thoughtful storytelling. “Pressure Point,” written by Rådström based on an outline by Wilhem Berhman and Niklas Rockström, explores the rehearsals for a controversial play that ultimately led to a tragic chain of events.
The series delves into the complexities of human nature, challenging traditional storytelling conventions. Rådström’s script sympathizes with the characters while also questioning their actions, reflecting the unpredictable nature of reality. Produced by Martina Stöhr at Art & Bob and directed by Sanna Lenken, “Pressure Point” is a thought-provoking exploration of freedom of expression, criminal justice, and rehabilitation.
In addition to Rådström’s accolades, the Creative Courage Award was presented to the Norwegian series “Dates in Real Life,” produced by Petter Onstad Løkke and Synnøve Hørsdal from Maipo Film. The series, commissioned by Marianne Furevold-Boland and Alec Thom from NRK, follows the story of Gen Z Ida as she navigates the complexities of modern relationships.
“Dates in Real Life” was praised for its innovative approach to storytelling, combining animation with live-action and offering a fresh perspective on the challenges of dating in a digital age. The series was awarded best series at the International Panorama of Series Mania, showcasing the impact of bold and creative storytelling in the Nordic industry.
