Warner Bros. Television has officially given the green light for a Season 4 of the popular series “Ted Lasso”. This news comes after the studio decided to pick up the options on original cast members Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, and Jeremy Swift. While it is confirmed that these three actors will be returning for the new season, it is also believed that Jason Sudeikis, who plays the title character, will be involved in some capacity as an executive producer. However, Warner Bros. TV has declined to comment on Sudeikis’ exact role in the revival.
Negotiations with the U.S. SAG-AFTRA cast members are still pending, as the focus has been on the U.K. Equity members for now. Talks of a “Ted Lasso” revival have been circulating ever since the show concluded its third season. Warner Bros. TV CEO Channing Dungey hinted at the possibility of the series continuing during an interview with Variety earlier this year.
Dungey expressed, “I mean, you watched the finale, thereās a little bit of a door that could be kicked back open if need be. I wouldnāt put the period on the end of that sentence just yet. There is still a lot of love for āTed Lasso.ā And I think that there still is a lot of enthusiasm on the part of Apple for āTed Lasso.ā Should the opportunity arise, weād be excited to jump back in to making moreā¦. There are always conversations that are ongoing, just nothing thatās official.”
For those unfamiliar with the show, “Ted Lasso” follows the journey of a small-time college football coach from Kansas who is hired to coach a professional soccer team in England, despite having no prior experience coaching soccer. Alongside Sudeikis, the series features a talented ensemble cast including Waddingham, Goldstein, Swift, Brendan Hunt, Juno Temple, and Phil Dunster.
Created by Sudeikis, Bill Lawrence, Hunt, and Joe Kelly, “Ted Lasso” is based on pre-existing format and characters from NBC Sports. Deadline was the first to report the exciting news of the show’s renewal for a fourth season.
