The UEFA Champions League has completed its first-ever league phase, and the knockout stage is now set after the draw was completed. Manchester City managed to avoid a potential disaster, while Liverpool finished at the top of the league-phase table. The draw revealed that Manchester City will face either Real Madrid or Bayern Munich in the playoffs.

The knockout phase playoff matchups were also decided during the draw. Teams ranked ninth through 16th at the end of the league phase were seeded and drawn against unseeded teams. The seeded teams will host the second leg, and the team with the greater aggregate score will advance to the round of 16, with the possibility of extra time and penalties if the aggregate score is tied.

– Atalanta vs. Club Brugge
– Borussia Dortmund vs. Sporting
– Real Madrid vs. Manchester City

Teams that finished in the top eight during the league phase will earn a bye and qualify directly for the round of 16, while those ranked ninth through 24th will enter the knockout phase playoffs. Teams ranked 25th or lower will be eliminated, with no teams dropping down to the UEFA Europa League.

Unlike previous editions of the Champions League, the away goals rule will not apply, and there will be no restrictions on teams from the same country facing each other. In the round of 16, seeded teams will face unseeded teams, with the ultimate goal of reaching the Champions League final set to take place at Munich’s Allianz Arena on May 31. The knockout phase of the Champions League is always an exciting time for football fans around the world. With the league phase now completed, the top teams are gearing up for the round of 16, where the competition will become even more intense.

The rules of the previous round still apply, but there are some new additions to the format. The teams that finished in the top four of the league phase will have their own quadrants in the bracket, ensuring that they do not face each other until the later stages of the competition. This adds an extra layer of strategy and excitement to the knockout phase.

The pairings for the round of 16 have been predetermined, with some exciting matchups in store for fans. Pairing A will see the top two teams facing off against the winners of a previous round, while Pairing B will feature the third and fourth place teams against another set of winners. Pairings C and D will follow a similar format, with the fifth through eighth place teams facing off against the remaining winners.
