Netflix has released the bone-chilling teaser trailer for the highly-anticipated series “The Monster of Florence,” created by Italian director Stefano Sollima. The show is based on the real-life case of a serial killer who terrorized Florence with a series of sex-related murders from the late 1960s to the mid-1980s.

Stefano Sollima, known for his work on “Gomorrah” and films like “Sicario: Day of the Soldado” and “Without Remorse,” delved deep into the unsolved case of “The Monster,” who was responsible for eight double murders of couples parked in secluded areas around Florence. The killer always used the same weapon, a 22 caliber Beretta, making it one of the most brutal and enduring serial killing cases in Italian history.

In a statement to Variety, Sollima expressed the significance of the case, stating, ” ‘The Monster of Florence’ is not only an unsolved judicial case, but a mystery that marks our relationship with pain, fear, and silence. The murdered couples, the horrors perpetrated on young women, never fully understood, are a wound that has remained open for too long. The story of a shadow, that has never disappeared.”

The limited series, consisting of four episodes, was shot on location in Italy and reunites Sollima with writer Leonardo Fasoli and cinematographer Paolo Carnera, both of whom he collaborated with on previous projects like “Gomorrah” and “ZeroZeroZero.”

Netflix has announced a global release date for Fall 2025 for “The Monster of Florence,” which was created by Fasoli and Sollima and produced by Fremantle-owned The Apartment and Sollima’s AlterEgo production company. The series is produced by Lorenzo Mieli, Stefano Sollima, and Gina Gardini.
