Arnoldo Jimenez, one of the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted fugitives, has been apprehended in Mexico after being on the run for nearly a decade. He was wanted for the brutal murder of his wife, Estrella Carrera, just hours after their wedding in 2012. Jimenez, 42, was captured in Monterrey and extradition proceedings are underway to bring him back to the US to face justice.

The FBI expressed their gratitude to the Burbank Police Department, law enforcement partners in Mexico, and the public for their collaborative efforts in capturing Jimenez. Special Agent-in-Charge Douglas DePodesta of the FBI’s Chicago Field Office emphasized the agency’s commitment to bringing criminals to justice, no matter how much time has passed or where they may be in the world.

The heinous crime took place on May 12, 2012, when Jimenez allegedly stabbed Carrera to death inside his black 2006 Maserati. He then transported her body to her apartment in Burbank, Illinois, where he left her in a bathtub, still clad in her wedding dress. The shocking murder sent shockwaves through the community and left authorities determined to track down the fugitive.

Arnoldo Jimenez was charged with first-degree murder and later federally charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. His capture marks a significant milestone in the FBI’s history, as he is the 522nd person to be added to the Ten Most Wanted list since its inception in 1950. The tireless efforts of the FBI and Burbank Police Department have finally brought some closure to the tragic case of Estrella Carrera.

It remains unclear at this time if anyone will receive the $250,000 reward offered by the FBI for information leading to Jimenez’s arrest. The swift apprehension of this dangerous fugitive serves as a reminder of the unwavering dedication of law enforcement agencies to bring perpetrators of violent crimes to justice.
